Stapleton: Late for the Funeral

Newlywed Penny Taylor is found bludgeoned to death, and husband Bill is the prime suspect. Miss Emily, an elderly neighbor, has her own opinions and she can be quite formidable in expressing them. She and Bill start their own investigation, running into twists and turns as Bill discovers that Penny wasn't all she claimed to be. Late for the Funeral was published in 1953.
